New Product Design

NEW MOULD DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

1

The client consults with our R&D experts over the idea of the new product. At this stage our unique technical team can advise on cost, productivity, functionality and marketing optimization aspects. An existing design or a prototype of the candidate product would be of help but not a must.

2

Within 15 working days a proposal is developed by our technical team and the client receives a drawing with technical specifications to check, revise and finally approve.

3

After the approval of the technical proposal the client may receive, upon request, within 15 working days, a sample made of plexi-glass in actual dimensions. This sample will help the client to understand the actual shape of the product, to proceed on packaging or marketing trials, etc. This service has a prepaid cost of 300€.

4

A commercial offer will follow addressing the moulds development cost, item cost, delivery times, production quantities, payment terms, etc.

5

Since the client is positive to proceed with the moulds development, a contract is prepared and countersigned by both parties, settling among other issues, the moulds development process, minimum production quantities, delivery terms, payment terms, issues of exclusivity, etc

6

The next step is the development of the trial set of moulds. The trial set of moulds is for the trial production of not more than 50 pieces. This trial production is mandatory and helps the glass factory to optimize the technical aspects of the final moulds development and the parameters of the production. The client can use these 50 pieces to test its production, packaging and logistics processes, to present sample products to potential buyers, etc. At this stage the client has to confirm that the trial samples are according to his expectations in order to proceed to the full set development. Otherwise, if the requested amendments from the client’s side are quite different from the approved drawing, a new trial set has to be developed with additional cost and delivery time. The trial set development process will be initiated after the prepayment of the 50% of the cost of its development. The delivery time for the trial set is close to 90 days. The rest of the 50% of the cost will be covered by the client before the delivery of the trial samples.

7

After the approval of the trial samples, the construction of the full set of the moulds is on the way. The estimated delivery time for the full set development is close to 120 days. At this stage the 50% of the cost* for the full set development has to be prepaid upon the approval of the trial samples and the rest 50% before the full set collection from the mould manufacturer.

* The cost of the moulds (trial and full set) depends on the production quantity of the products. The following indicative examples will give some idea: For 50.000 pieces per production run (which is the minimum produced quantity) the mould set cost is by average close to 15.000 €. For a production run of 300.000 pieces, the cost is by average close to 40.000 €. The cost of each item (jar or bottle) is not included in the costs referred above. Just the mould development costs. Please note that for small production runs (i.e. 50.000 pcs) a higher cost per item should be considered instead of bigger production runs. Thus, small produced quantities require small mould development cost but higher prices per produced item.
